How family codes work
A family code is a unique 6 character code that is generated at registration of a family membership
Family code basics
Once the Primary Family member has paid for the family membership, the code allows secondary family members to link to the family from their own devices.
The code is displayed on the digital membership card in the mobile app. The code can be copied to the clipboard using the icon beside it and pasted into another application to be shared with other family members. (i.e: via text message)
The code works in the following ways:
- Secondary family members who have an existing Hivepass account (i.e: with another organisation/club), will be automatically added to the family and their membership activated.
- To activate their membership with this organisation, they will need to:
-
- Log in to Hivepass with their existing password
- Once logged in they will need to go to Menu -> Join Other organisations and select 'Join' for the correct organisation
- Press the 'Register Now' or similar button
- Select 'Enter Family Code' and input the code
Click 'Join Now'
*This user will receive a welcome email notifying them that they have been added and paid for by the primary family member and instructions for accessing their account.
For information on setting up these emails and to send test emails, go to Settings -> Message Settings.
- Secondary family members who do not have an existing Hivepass account (i.e: with another organisation/club), will be automatically added to the family and their membership activated.
- To access their own account, they will need to:
-
- install Hivepass onto their device and select 'Create Account'.
- Input their email address, which will be recognised by Hivepass and all they will need to do is enter the Family Code as their password.
Once they are logged in, select 'My Profile' from the menu to update to a password of their choice.
*This user will receive a welcome email notifying them that they have been added and paid for by the primary family member.
Note:
- The family code is not case sensitive (it doesn't matter how the user enters the code)
- The code expires with the lifetime of the membership i.e: 12 months
If the primary family member is deactivated by the organisations admin, this will reset all family members. If reactivated, this will create a new family and new family codes.
All family members will need the new code in order to re-join the same family. Only deactivate a primary family member if absolutely necessary.
