Change a member's membership type
You can update a member's membership type if they're moving to a different plan, such as from an Adult to a Family membership. We generally recommend using the Admin methods in the Hivepass Admin app to make these changes, as it gives you more control, reduces the chance of errors, and ensures a better overall experience for your members.

🔄 How to change a membership type
There are a few different options depending on the type of change required:
Change from single → single (admin, no payment difference)🧑💻
This method is to be done by an Admin in the Hivepass Admin app.
- Go to the Members page.
- Select the member and go to the Main tab.
- Use the Membership type dropdown to switch to the new single membership (e.g. Child → Adult).
- (Optional) Adjust the expiry date if needed. You may also wish to manually adjust the expiry date of the updated membership to factor in any difference in value.
- Click Save.
⚠️ Note: Hivepass does not process any price differences for this type of change. For example, if you change a member from Child to Adult, no additional fee will be charged. If there is another type of payment difference, it will need to be managed outside Hivepass.
Change from single → family (admin) 🧑💻
This method is to be done by an Admin in the Hivepass Admin app. For active members, Hivepass will calculate the payment pro‑rata.
- Go to the Members page and select the member.
Click Change to Family Membership (top right above payment info).
If more than one family membership exists, select the correct option.
- Review the pro‑rata calculation (e.g. if an individual membership costs $50/yr and a family costs $100/yr, and the member upgraded on the same day, Hivepass will convert the $50 into 6 months of family membership).
If correct, click Change.
- Add family members into empty spaces, or the primary member can add them on their own device.
Notify the member if needed. Their membership type and expiry date will automatically update on their digital card.

Note: For inactive members, change the membership type from the Main tab in their profile using the dropdown menu.
Change from single → family (user in the app) 📱
This method is for the member/user to complete themselves in the Hivepass app.
- Open the Hivepass app and go to Menu > Membership Options.
- Select Change to Family Membership.
Review the new expiry date based on the pro‑rata calculation. If correct, tap Change.

- Tap Save and finish.
⚠️ Note: If the family membership requires a waiver and minors are added, the waiver must be agreed to before the membership becomes active.
💡Things to know and limitations
- The member's renewal date will stay the same unless you update it manually.
- The new membership type will apply immediately after saving.
- Hivepass does not process price differences when switching membership types (e.g. Child → Adult). No additional fee will be charged, but you may want to manually adjust the expiry date to reflect the value difference.
- You cannot change from a single membership to a group membership at this time.
✅ Tip: In the Hivepass Admin app, use the search bar in the Members list to quickly find a member by name or email.
