📩 How alias email addresses work
The primary family member joins hivepass normally as a family, and signs up the children using an alias email address for each child/additional member.
An alias email address is a simple solution to creating an address that arrives in the same inbox as an existing account, but it does NOT involve setting up an entirely new email account.
The alias system is really useful for young children who don't have an email address or if the adult setting up the account (the Primary family member) shares an email address with someone else in the family.
💡 This can be particularly handy for families with children who may soon have their own device. When the child wants to log in to their hivepass account on their own device they can use this alias address to access their family membership immediately.
📢 How to set it up
Example:
- If the Primary family members' email address is ilovebikes@gmail.com, Hivepass won't allow other members of the family to use the same address.
- Gmail allows an alias such as ilovebikes+1@gmail.com.
- Each member of the family must have a unique alias, i.e: ilovebikes+wendy@gmail.com, or ilovebikes+dave@gmail.com.
- Basically, the formula (with gmail) is to add something that identifies/changes the email address after the '+' and before the '@'.
- Any mail sent to this address will arrive in the same inbox as the primary address; ilovebikes@gmail.com.
