Newsletter Editor - Content Part 1

The Newsletter editor allows you to tailor your newsletter to suit your needs with ease.

Using the buttons at the top right of the screen, you can undo, redo, toggle between desktop or mobile view, Preview and 'Save and Exit'. You can save and exit as many times as you like whilst you are editing your newsletter.

There are two templates we've carefully crafted that should work well for your organisation.

The Template with Header & Footer Only has all of the pre-populated essentials in the header and footer as well as a intro image and intro copy to get you started. You can then add whatever elements you need in the middle section. This could be particularly useful for special newsletters announcing one event, such as an AGM, race results recap, or a special event that deserves a newsletter of its own.

The Newsletter Template is a more complete template with the same header and footer, but also a 3 item 'Features' section, an Upcoming Events calendar, an In Other News section for more articles and a Sponsors Logos space built in. Of course, this template is highly editable, so you can delete out as many blocks between the header and footer as you please, or add other elements in.

Adding in your own elements

Once you've chosen your template, using the menu on the left hand side, it’s possible to add images, text, video, banners etc. Just drag and drop them to wherever you want them.

Images

Loading in images is easy and they are then stored for future use in an image gallery. Images between 600 and 800 pixels wide are ideal for newsletters and as these will only be viewed on screens, they don’t need to be really big files.

Note: The maximum size an image can be is 4000x4000 pixels and 3MB, but to help the email load more quickly for your recipients, ideally keep the images under 1MB.

To replace an image, select the image you'd like to replace and in the Image Block on the right, select 'Replace Image'.

There is a basic image editor built in too which is perfect for resizing, applying filters, cropping and transforming images. The Image Block at the right hand side shows lots of options for finessing your images further.

Copy

To edit your copy, place the cursor into the block of text to open the Text Block at the right hand side.

Under Settings in this block there are options for the alignment and spacing of text, as well as any paragraph styles you have set. Under Styles in this block, choose the typeface, size and colour if you wish to edit just a small section. Use the paragraph styles (explained below) to quickly and easily style your newsletters.

Paragraph Styles - To set these up, make sure that nothing on the page is selected (the easiest way to do this is to click on the white are of the page next to the title of the email campaign.) When nothing is selected, this will bring up the General Settings Block at the right hand side.

Hover over the bottom part of the Block to open up the stacked tabs. Select Headings. Here you can set up to 6 preset heading styles.

Hot tip - keeping a similar format to your monthly / regular newsletter helps readers quickly find elements of special interest, such as the calendar or featured articles.

Links

Help your readers quickly and easily sign up for races, visit partner websites and navigate to your social pages by adding links into the body copy.

There are two options for changing the colour of the links to ensure they grab the most attention.

To set the link colour for anywhere in the email:

  • Open the General Settings Menu by clicking anywhere in the white space at the header of the newsletter (so that no particular element of the layout is selected).
  • Hover over the bottom of the panels to the right so that you can see the ‘Stripes’ tab appear.

  • Click on it to open the Stripes panel

  • Change the Link colour and Hover Link Colour to something that contrasts with the background colour you have set. The default is a handy turquoise colour, good for light and dark backgrounds
  • Save this colour to your palette if it is a custom colour

To set an individual link colour - for example, maybe you want a bright orange for this one

  • Add your link by putting your cursor in the correct place in the copy and then click the Link icon in the Text Block at the right hand side
  • Use the dropdown to select the type of link and enter the url

  • With the link text highlighted, go to the Styles tab in the Text Block at the right hand side
  • Set the link colour to something that contrasts with the background colour you have set
  • Save this colour to your palette if it is a custom colour
