Recurring family subscriptions

Recurring subscriptions for family memberships are a great way to increase revenue for your organisation and make the membership experience friction-free. Yearly and monthly subscriptions auto-renew and can be cancelled at any time.

⭐️ We recommend enabling flexible family mode. Across all organisations, approximately 85% of families qualify for recurring subscriptions when this option is used

βš™οΈ Adding subscription options to your family membership type

  1. Go to Settings > Membership Settings
  2. Select the relevant membership type
  3. Under the main tab, at the right hand side, select the subscription options you require: i.e: β€˜Available as a yearly recurring subscription’. Enter a price.

NOTE: There are more fees related to monthly subscription transactions, so consider this carefully before setting up monthly subscriptions. Current fees are $0.30 per monthly transaction. (NZ and overseas). See https://pricing.hivepass.app/ for more information.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦ Flexible family mode

Flexible Family Mode - this is the default mode family membership has been in until now and it allows for variable pricing on family memberships. We recommend enabling flexible family mode.

Under the family tab, check the family settings. These probably won’t change, but it's important to check that this is configured correctly to suit subscriptions.

With flexible family mode toggled on, members can add additional family members above the base numbers for an additional cost per adult/child, up to the max number of children and adults specified in these settings.

I.e: The user signs up with 2 adults but later wishes to add another adult to the family, if your family is set up with a max number of adults at 3, then they can pay for an additional adult as per the extra adult price.

Without flexible family mode the membership has a fixed number of adults and children only for a single price. This means that a user cannot add an additional family member to this membership type. I.e: The user signs up with 2 adults but later wishes to add another adult to the family, this is not possible.

βœ‹ When a family is not eligible for a subscription

If a user signs up and adds more adults or children than the base numbers, they will automatically be ineligible for a subscription. As a result, the subscription option will not appear in the app.

Example

Subscriptions are a fixed price. A $100 subscription covers up to 2 adults and 2 children.

If a group has only 2 adults, they qualify for the $100 subscription.

If they have 3 adults, the cost becomes $150 ($100 base + $50 for the extra adult), so they no longer qualify for the $100 subscription.

πŸ”₯ Tip: The family price calculator in admin will show a warning if the number of family members is too great to qualify for a subscription.
