Trouble shooting adding a custom domain

In this article we cover some of the common issues you may face setting up a custom domain for emails in Hivepass.

🙋‍♂️ How can I find my DNS provider?

To add email/DNS records, you must update the DNS provider for your domain (this is not always the same as your website host).

How to check your DNS provider (no login):

  1. Open one of the DNS lookup tools below and enter your domain name.
    1. DNS Checker
    2. DNS Lookup
    3. MX Toolkit
  2. Look for Nameservers (they look like ns1…   and ns2…  ). Examples below.
  3. The company listed in those nameservers is your DNS provider — that’s where DNS changes must be made.
    1. In the examples above this is myhost.nz.
    2. If the DNS lookup tool shows ns1.alpha.myhost.nz   and ns2.alpha.myhost.nz  , then DNS is managed at MyHost (even if your website or email is hosted somewhere else).

If the nameservers don’t match the platform you’re editing, your DNS changes won’t be visible on the internet until you update the records in the correct DNS provider.
